Homec at TR Makers Co.

Homec classes occur on select Tuesdays and Wednesdays for students (ages 7-12). Taking on lessons like natural fabric dyeing, jam making, crocheting, sewing, and more.  There will be two topics covered a month.

Additionally, our teachers use a variety of techniques during each lesson to help students of all learning styles to understand and comprehend each area of study. Lessons have been designed with specific age ranges and multiple ability levels in mind.

Our Homec Classes are expanding in Fall 2026! We will have 3 hour classes Tuesday morning, Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning. There will only be ONE session per topic!

You choose which classes you attend and what works best for your homeschool and afternoon schedule. Students must be at least 7 years old by the date of the class.

 

LAST SPRING CLASS:

Jam Session: The Art of Sweet Preserves AM and PM 

Part A: Students will explore the science of turning fruit into jam—learning about pectin, sugar, and heat while preparing their fruit mixture.
Part B: It’s time to cook and can! Students will safely jar their jam and design a custom label to make it ready for the pantry or a special gift.

Fall 2026 Semester:

Aug 18 & 19: Sewing with Machines: Beginner

Part A: Students will learn basic sewing skills—threading a needle, simple stitches, and how to safely use sewing tools—while beginning and completing a small project such as a pillow or tote.

Aug 25 & 26: Sewing with Machines: Intermediate 

Students that have attended our beginner sewing class or have experience will follow patterns and explore ways to personalize their projects it with buttons, trims, or embroidery.

Sept 22 & 23: Naturally Dyeing Fabrics

Discover how nature provides its own rainbow! Students will experiment with leaves, roots, and flowers to extract natural dyes and learn how to prepare fabric for coloring. Using their custom-made dyes, students will transform clothing or fabric pieces into beautiful, naturally colored creations to take home.

We will tie-dye, use wax resist and the sun to add designs to our fabrics!

Sept 29 & 30: Paper Making (possible sketchbook making)

In this unique class, students will learn how to make their own paper from scratch and use it to create one-of-a-kind sketchbooks. It’s a creative, sensory-rich experience that combines art, recycling, and craftsmanship.

Oct 20 & 21: Upcycle Weaving: Making your own yarn and weaving rugs

Students will turn everyday materials into something amazing by creating their own yarn and weaving it into small rugs or wall hangings. This eco-friendly class encourages creativity, resourcefulness, and hands-on exploration.

Oct 27 & 28: Finger and Arm Crocheting 

No hooks needed! In this fun and approachable class, students will use their fingers and arms to create chunky, cozy projects. It’s a great introduction to fiber arts that builds confidence and creativity in a playful way.

Nov 10 & 11: Woodworking: Birdhouses

Young makers will get an introduction to woodworking as they design and build their own birdhouses. Using safe, guided techniques, students will learn basic construction skills and leave with a functional project they can proudly display outdoors.

Nov 17 & 18: Embroidery

Students will explore the art of embroidery by learning simple stitches and creating colorful designs on fabric. This relaxing class encourages creativity and fine motor skills while giving kids a fun way to personalize their own textile art.

Dec 1 & 2: Needle Felting

In this cozy, hands-on class, students will learn the basics of needle felting while transforming soft wool into adorable 3D creations. Perfect for beginners, this class builds patience, focus, and creativity as kids bring their fuzzy designs to life.
