What has the power to connect us to cultures around the world and even to the past? Art history! Long before technology and even textbooks, art was used to record events, communicate stories, and even promote change! By exploring old masters and their famous works we can learn the important role art has played throughout history as well as its current influence on our modern-day world. Just like many contemporary artists, you too can use techniques of the past to inspire your own artwork!
This afternoon series will allow your students to learn about art and artists from a variety of art eras and the significance of the artwork in history. Along with our historical artists, they will study contemporary artists that use similar techniques and ideas in their work today. Through hands-on projects and activities, students will have the opportunity to employ what they learn about these old masters and new makers.
Classes will be meeting during the fall and spring semesters. Each semester includes 14 weeks of 1 hr 30 min classes with an end of unit celebration! Students can participate in a single semester or continue to build their artistic arsenal and join us each year.
Our Fall 2023 unit will focus on the Impressionist and Neo-Impressionist art periods. We will spend each lesson learning about the main masters and works that made these periods great, as well as contemporary artists whose work relates to the masters of the past. Students will also have the opportunity to create some of their own pieces inspired by works and techniques of the past!
